2021 - Concrete

Concrete This object is my reaction to the distance our society has towards nature and for that m a tter, towards the humans (humanity) in this society. The s tifling constructions we so often create. We’ve got the kno w l ed ge and capability to cre a te paradise for each and every one of us, but mostly we end up creating a concrete prison. In this prison we defend our neighbourhood, our street, so no strangers will enter. We’re stuck on our island. The figures in my object try to escape this mind-numbing, hopeless and oppressive situation. We often tell ourselves: we live in prosperity, but my figures are looking for humanity, kindness, compassion. Away from the stress of this ‘modern’ world, away from this all-consuming consumer society in which endless economic growth seams to be the highest achievable.
